About the Conservancy
Inspired by the highly successful Bronxville Centennial Celebration in 1998, and now celebrating its 10th year, the Conservancy was founded to record and preserve Bronxville’s history and life in the village today.
Funded by annual membership dues and the yield from a generous endowment by the Frieda Riggs family, the Conservancy’s projects and activities include:
• Annual Brendan Gill Lecture featuring prominent speakers
• Annual membership meeting and reception
• Lectures on Bronxville history
• Boat trips to historic sites
• House tours of local residences
• Illustrated historical publication, The Bronxville Journal
• Semi-annual newsletter, The Chronicle
• Projects designed to strengthen and preserve the
village’s architectural, artistic and cultural heritage.

Bringing Bronxville artists' works home
When Bronxville’s Village Hall re-opened in 2007, after its first renovation since architect Randolph Evan’s design was completed in 1942, it was graced with treasured artwork, thanks to the Bronxville Historical Conservancy. Ten paintings, acquired by the Conservancy in fulfilling its mission to preserve the village’s artistic legacy, are now displayed on Village Hall walls along with newlyre-framed portraits of the village’s 35 past mayors and several enlarged vintage postcards, and images from the Local History Room archives.
Other Projects:
• Replication of four 1910 wrought iron lanterns spanning stone gateposts on Avon Road
• Continuing research on and the acquisition and restoration of art by Bronxville artists
• Collection of black and white photography of modern Bronxville by the late Fielding Bowman
• Color portfolio of Bronxville today photographed by photographer Judy Watts Wilson Research for an illustrated book on the history and architecture of the Bronxville Library to be published by the Conservancy
• DVD conversion of the Living History cable television series for the archives
• Purchase of a sound system for use by the Village Christmas Pageant committee to assist in continuing this nearly 100-year old tradition, and available for use other civic organizations.
